A Gorjuss Girl Amore!

So, this card is another try at the Sugarbowl Challenge!   Nope, didn’t win last time.  😦    But, maybe this time!    I’ll keep trying.    The challenge is to follow this awesome Sketch and to include some distressing.

I flipped the Sketch for my card  …

The DP is from the Basic Grey Sugar Rush collection, now in stock at 7 Kids College Fund.   I used Smooch paint in the color pumpkin to highlight the tiny hearts on her dress & boots and the one in her hair.   My distressing is done with Tim Holtz Distress ink in fired brick ~ I also used the Spellbinders Mega Nestabilites Large Deckled Rectangles for the background shape of the main image.

Speaking of Gojuss Girls, it was my twin granddaughters, Hailee & Jordynn’s seventh birthday this past weekend.   Since they LOVE the American Girl dolls, they spent the day at the American Girl Place in Chicago.   I had to share these pictures of their trip!

Imagine the reactions of people seeing these two little cuties walking down Michigan Avenue (the Magic Mile) in downtown Chicago with their dolls and shopping bags!   🙂

Thanks for popping in today – Hope you’re having a great weekend!

Sugar Bowl Challenge No. 24 – Zig Zag

Happy Friday!

I loved the sketch this week for the Sugar Bowl Challenge  and thought I would give it a try … my first time!    The only requirements are that you follow the sketch, use a Sugar Nellie image and include some form of zig-zag.     All the details can be found here.

I decided to use one of my very favorite Sugar Nellie images, one of the Gorguss Girls for my card.   For my zig zag, I used some black rik rak and the Spellbinders Nestabilities Large Pinking Circles.   The  DP is from Graphic 45 – you know how I feel about that!

Today’s card went MUCH better than yesterday’s!    I appreciate all your kind comments on my lonnnnnng post yesterday …. but, I still don’t like the card!    🙂

Thanks for stopping by today.   Hope you’re having a GREAT weekend!

A friend asked if I would attempt to make a 5th birthday card for her Children’s International Sponsor child in the Dominican Republic.   I had thought a nice bright color combination would work well with the darker toned complexion.   My friend had suggested the Tilda in the Cherry Dress.     So, I did both!!

I’m still unsure which one I prefer!!   So, I gave her both and let her decide.    😀

Yes, it’s another from my secret stash of Sugar Nellie Gorjuss Girls!   I truly love these images!   I also used some paper from my new-favorite company, Graphic 45 ~ their colors and patterns are so bright and vibrant ~ I’ve been collecting them wherever I can find them!   I do like the combination of blue and yellow too!

I’ve added some metal brads from Spare Parts and the square shapes behind the main image are cut with my Spellbinders Nestabilities dies.  The yellow lace is from Making Memories and the blue ribbon is from my stash ~ the dots were originally white, until I colored them yellow with my Copic marker!  🙂    The sentiment is computer generated.

There once was a little girl …

Of all the Gorjuss Girl images I received from Heather, this one stood out as my very favorite!   Having raised two daughters, it was way too realistic!

A friend who has THREE daughters!!  ~ ages 10 to 16, also was VERY able to relate to this little girl!   So, I decided to make a card for her with this Gorjuss Girl, using one of my favorite poems from when I was young by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow.   (I actually often quoted this to my daughters!).

There once was a little girl ...

There once was a little girl ...

Just seeing this little girl with her arms crossed in that defiant stance ….any Mother who has had a daughter knows….. brought me back to the days of  my adolescent girls!!    Fun, fun, fun!    (Although, I must say both of my daughters turned out pretty amazing, considering what we went through!    🙂

I added the rest of the poem to the inside of the card ~

 When she was good ...

I hope you’re having a good weekend!   Thank you so much for stopping by today …  can’t tell you how much I appreciate it!     🙂

A bit of Inspiration…

Sometimes, all you need is a little inspiration from your friends!   I was so inspired by the card I received from Heather that I just had color one of the Gorjuss Girls she sent along to me!!   Wow, I think I have a new addiction.  The GG stamps are so much fun to color!  I love when most of the areas to be highlighted are pretty obvious…it certainly helps me!

A “Gorjuss” Gift!! :)

LOTS of Gorguss Girls

LOTS of Gorjuss Girls

Look at this amazing package that arrived in my mailbox this week!!!!  🙂   I feel like it’s Christmas in May!!

I had been visiting my friend Heather’s  blog ~ http://ricas-haven.blogspot.com/ and, as usual, was so impressed by her amazing creations!  I was especially in awe of her Gorjuss Girls’ cards…each one was a masterpiece.   After I left a comment, being the truly kind person that she is ~ she offered to send some stamped GG images to me!!!    I don’t own any and thought they were totally …. gorgeous!

But, the best part is that Heather  sent along a card she had made.  My jaw dropped, it really is one of the prettiest cards I’ve ever seen!  Sigh.

The details she added are amazing and her coloring is true artwork!  These pictures definitely do not do justice to this card.  She’s such a talented and sooooo very nice person!  And she certainly made my day!   I hope you can pop over to her blog, but just a warning, you’ll get lost in her awesome creations!
